A few weeks ago I went to the South Sound Bridal Show (which I highly recommend attending by the way) and happened upon this cute little location for a wedding. This is one of the newest South Sound Wedding Venues. 2012 is their first year having weddings at The General Store in Roy, Washington. Roy is such a tiny little cute town in the Tacoma area located right near one of Ft. Lewis’ back gates. It reminded me a lot of Pine Level, NC where we just moved from. This would be the perfect location if you were thinking “vintage inspired” for your wedding. I can just see this place filled with wildflowers and mason jars. They have most of the vintage covered for you.
I got this from their website:
The “General Store” was a mainstay in the early 1900’s for the community. They offered grocery, hardware, millinery, and farm supplies as well as a system of barter for the goods of the local farms. There is a rich history over the years it operated from 1885 (the original store burned down and the “new” one was built in 1905) until 1993. It sat vacant until 1995 when it was purchased by Mark and Diana Riehm who renovated it for use as a Steakhouse and Saloon, that was a fun time for all.
I met Diana when I went on a little tour inside the place. They have done an awesome job on it. It looks awesome. I started upstairs in the ladies
H U G E dressing room. There is no way you could get cramped in there unless you have 10 or more bridesmaids! There is plenty of seating for everyone and a nice bar too. 😉 The guys room is a little smaller and has a TV in case a game is on and he just cant miss it.Everything is all vintagey and awesome. I love everything on the walls. There are a lot of photos of old Roy as well. I like going into places and finding out the history of the town and place you’re in. The dance floor is really nice dancable floor. I think only a lindy hopper would comment on the dance ability of the floor. I give it a 6 on the fastness scale. It would be an awesome spot for a smaller dance venue. All the same, its a nice wood and not too small or too big. There is plenty of seating for about 150 people and a nice, big bar as well to keep the dancin’ going on all night. The location is really easy to find because its just right across the street from the Roy, Wa Water tower. Easy Peasy.
I took photos a little backwards. I took all the outside photos as I was leaving which worked out since it had stopped raining by the time I came back out. Washington and it’s rain! Something I usually look for with venues is if there are other close spots for photos and while I didnt take any photos of them there definitely are. Lots of places with nice texture and great spots to take your bridesmaids and groomsmen. That way if the weather cooperates youre not stuck inside all day.You remember up above when I mentioned that this is their first year hosting weddings? Well, 2012 brides are in luck as they are offering 50% savings on their rentals. I think that is FANTASTIC. I do love a good sale and I think if I were a bride I would be all about it. So go and check the venue out yourself. I bet you’ll fall in love.
